With 92,071 new cases, India's COVID tally crosses 48 lakh-mark

India’s COVID-19 case tally has crossed 48 lakh-mark after a spike of 92,071 new cases and 1,136 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, as of Monday morning.

The total number of coronavirus cases has increased to 48,46,428 out of which 9,86,598 are active cases, 37,80,108 have been cured and discharged while 79,722 have died due to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 10,60,308 confirmed cases out of which 2,90,716 are active cases, 7,40,061 have been cured and discharged while 29,531 have died due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said that “Today in Maharashtra, there are more than 10 lakh COVID-19 patients and our state account for 40 percent total deaths in the country. Firstly, our Chief Minister should fight against coronavirus rather than opposition or Kangana.”

On the other side, the Delhi government has stated that Gyms and yoga institutes have been permitted (except in containment zones) with immediate effect subject to strict compliance of SOP.

The Health Ministry stated that 77,512 recoveries have been registered in the last 24 hours in India taking the total number of recoveries to 37,80,107 and recovery rate to 78 percent. More than 60 percent of active cases are concentrated in 5 States — Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh & Tamil Nadu.
