Pakistani model poses bare head at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib; DSGMC seeks action

A Pakistani model has kicked up a controversy after posing ‘bare head’ for a clothing advertisement at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.

Describing it as an insult to the Sikh community, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjinder Singh Sirsa has asked Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to take strict action against her for posing bare head at the religious place.

Taking to his Twitter handle, DSGMC’s Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared the pictures of the Pakistani model clicked at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib. “Such behaviour and act at a pious place of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is totally unacceptable! Can she dare to do the same at her religious place in Pakistan?” he tweeted.

“The Pakistan Government should immediate intervene and take steps to stop this trend of treating Kartarpur Sahib as a picnic spot by Pakistan people,” he added.

He tweeted: “Modelling at Sri Kartarpur Sahib is Desecration. Pak Court issued Arrest Warrant of star who did dance video at Mosque; same must be done against this woman from Lahore as an example of treating all religion at par. Otherwise, any talk of respect for Sikhism is hollow.” He has sought a strict action against the model.

The DSGMC has also written to Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar demanding him to take up with the Pakistan Government.

Notably, in pictures shared on social media, a model can be seen posing for an advertisement for a women’s clothing brand at the gurdwara in Punjab province of Pakistan.

“A Pakistani business promotion agency used the premises of historical Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib, Pakistan, for promotion of ladies clothes. This act of agency/model has deeply hurt the religious sentiments of Sikh community worldwide. It is unfortunate that the local administration allowed an agency to use the religious place of worship for such promotions (sic),” the letter read.
