Parliament logjam intensifies as obstinate Opposition decides to ruin the session

Nrw Delhi: The parliament logjam took an ugly turn on Monday when Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan suspended 25 Congress MPs for five days for “willfully obstructing the business of the house”.

The Congress MPs, including Gaurav Gogoi, Sushmita Dev, Ranjeet Ranjan, K.C. Venugopal and Deepinder Singh Hooda, were “named” under rule 374(A).

Earlier, the Lok Sabha secretariat had said 27 members have been suspended. They later corrected the number to 25.

The speaker’s action came soon after the failure of an all party meeting called by the government to break the parliament logjam.

The all party meeting today failed to break the nearly fortnight-long deadlock in Parliament with Congress unrelenting on its demand for resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and BJP CMs Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Government firmly rejecting it.

However, a number of regional parties including Trinamool Congress and Biju Janta Dal voiced anguish over continued disruption of the Houses and asked the two national parties to resolve the matter to ensure that other issues are discussed in Parliament.

JD(U) and Left parties, however, backed Congress in the meeting.

Has government already banned 800 porn sites?

Has government started blocking porn sites? According to sources, government has ordered internet service providers to block over 800 plus pornographic sites.

There is a raging debate on social platforms that government has already banned more than 800 sites in India, though there is no order citing ban of porn sites has come to light so far.

Internet users of MTNL, BSNL and other private services have claimed that they have not been able to open porn sites due to some problem.

Customers of Delhi based Spectranet are also facing lot of hitch in accessing porn sites.

Popular sites such as Pornhub and Youporn would not open. It seems like the service provider is blocking sites with terms such as ‘porn’ in its title.

According to a Supreme Court order, adults watching porn in the confines of their home is not a crime. Chief Justice HL Dattu has even gone to the extent to say that it violates the Right to Personal Liberty.

Chief Justice HL Dattu had said, somebody may come to the court and say look I am above 18 and how can you stop me from watching it within the four walls of my room. It is a violation of Article 21 [right to personal liberty.”

There was also an offer to tighten the power transmission system to reduce losses. Clear Water and Green Energy Incorporation – Director of Technology Dr Joseph Bifskey  offered technology for multiple treatment of water for both irrigation and drinking purposes. He said his company was capable of providing affordable integrated technology to suit the nature of impurities.

Mr Sukhbir Badal while appreciating the offer, said it fit into the country’s motto of “one drop more crop”. He asked the company to submit a detailed project proposal which could help conserve water and use waste water for productive purposes.

In another offer, MKM company CEO Morvai Ferenc offered transfer of third generation clean and green technology to Punjab under which energy produced by sun light and biomass would be integrated with the grid. Additional chief secretary Suresh Kumar asked the company to submit a proposal on producing energy from biomass saying Punjab had an availability of 20 million tonnes of paddy straw per annum which could be used for this purpose.

All party meet today, Govt may offer PM’s intervention

New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) Setting the tone for today’s all-party meet, government and Congress were engaged in a verbal clash, with the ruling side alleging “obstructionism” on part of the opposition which in turn blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “arrogance” for the Parliament logjam.

With half of the Monsoon session virtually washed out, the government asked Congress to introspect and said it can have “honourable exit” by having a debate on the row surrounding External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Lalit Modi.

The government has convened an all-party meeting tomorrow to discuss ways to end the stalemate in Parliament.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Congress may be upset with the government for “political reasons” but it must “accept and seriously introspect” that “negativism” and its “obstructionist tendencies” would hurt the country and the economy.

His attack in a facebook post came in the context of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill which is among the reform measures stuck as Parliament is unable to function because of relentless opposition demand for resignation of Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in Lalit Modi row and ouster of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over Vyapam scam.

Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who addressed a press conference at BJP headquarters, termed Congress as “confused” and claimed that it has put itself in an “untenable position” and “pushed itself against the wall” by demanding resignations of Swaraj, Raje and Chauhan.

Reacting sharply, Congress leader Anand Sharma said, “The blame of Parliament’s not functioning lies squarely with the Prime Minister for his arrogance and obduracy.”

Mumbai, Aug 1: Days after Bollywood superstar Salman Khan got into a controversy by opposing the death penalty for 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon, his father, veteran writer Salim Khan, dismissing his son’s tweets as “childish and meaningless”, said he was being targeted for his celebrity status which gives accusers more publicity.
Salim says his son was not the only person who had held such a position.
“These things have been said by many people. Salman was not the only one. Probably his way of putting it was little childish and meaningless. First person to condemn it was me. Lots of people like Naseeruddin Shah, Shatrughan Sinha, (Justice) Markandey Katju have said the same thing,” Salim told news channel India Today.
“You get more publicity when you attach Salman because he is a big star,” he added.

“The Prime Minister is coming,” Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu confirmed when asked if he would be attending the last rites of the former “scientist-President”.

Speaking to reporters at the Palam technical area from where the mortal remains of the former president was flown to his hometown Rameswaram by a special aircraft, Naidu said some chief ministers are also expected to attend the last rites.

The Prime Minister will arrive at Rameswaram early in the morning and attend the rituals at around 11 am, sources said.

Penning his tribute to the ‘missile man’ and who was felicitated with the highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, Modi in his blog, said “Bharat has lost a Ratna”.

“Our scientist-President – and one who was genuinely loved and admired across the masses – never measured success by material possessions,” he said.

“For him, the counterpoint to poverty was the wealth of knowledge, in both its scientific and spiritual manifestations,” the Prime Minister said.

He remembered Kalam as one who took little from the world, and gave all he could to the society.

“Kalamji refused to be defeated by circumstances. His character, commitment and inspirational vision shine through his life. He was unencumbered by ego; flattery left him cold,” Modi said.

Describing him as a “hero” of India’s defence, the Prime Minister said his contributions to “our nuclear and space achievements have given India the muscle to be confident of her place in the region and the world.”

Modi said his profound idealism was secure because it rested on a foundation of realism.

Kalam was “equally at ease before an audience of suave, globe-trotting ministers and a class of young students”, Modi said.

Punjab Swat wins war against terror, PM backs the boys

Read how SWAT came into being:

An idea floated four years back by Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to establish a crack commando force in Punjab has borne fruit with the State’s SWAT team giving a befitting reply to Pak controlled terrorists who struck at Deenanagar today.

The SWAT team, which is four years old, put its training to good use by successfully bringing down all three heavily armed terrorists at Deenanagar in a no holds barred fire fight.

The Deputy CM said the idea to form a highly trained commando outfit came about after the Mumbai blasts when crucial time was lost in tackling the terrorists holed up in the Taj Mahal hotel because the NSG team was stationed in Delhi. He said the new team created in Punjab is not only equipped with the latest weaponry but has trained by Israeli experts. “Moreover they are highly motivated and equipped to handle every exigency”, he added.

Mr Badal said 28 members of the team were involved in an exercise at Amritsar and therefore could be deployed to Deenanagar immediately. He said the team had equipped itself commendably and he had asked DGP Sumedh Singh Saini to reward them for the exemplary valour and dedication shown by then in neutralising the terrorists.
