Gurmeet Bawa death: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Wednesday visited the residence of late eminent Punjabi folk singer Gurmeet Bawa for sharing his condolences with the members of the bereaved family.
Expressing profound grief with the singer’s husband Kirpal Bawa and daughter Glory Bawa, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa announced that a memorial in the memory of late Gurmeet Bawa would be constructed at Dera Baba Nanak as a humble tribute to the legendary folk singer who propagated folk music of Punjab in every nook and corner of the world.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that she was blessed with such a melodious voice and known for her long chant (hek) and relentlessly served Punjabi folk music for more than half a century with her meaningful singing.
Members of the Bawa family, Ridan, Purva, and Rishabh, eminent singer Satinder Satti, DGP Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, and Commissioner of Police Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill were also present.
Earlier on Monday, Punjabi singer Satinder Satti had expressed resentment over many celebrities not attending Gurmeet Bawa’s cremation.
‘Hek Di Rani’ Gurmeet Bawa on Sunday passed away at the age of 77 in Amritsar. She took her last breath at IVI hospital in Amritsar.
On Gurmeet Bawa’s death, several Punjabi singers took to Twitter to pay condolences to the departed soul. Harshadeep Kaur wrote: “Saddened to hear about the demise of Legendary Folk Singer #GurmeetBawa ji… Her powerful -‘Hek’ will always reverberate in our hearts.”
