With the Punjab Assembly elections due in 2022, Shiromani Akali Dal stalwart and five-time Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has called for making manifesto a legal document.
Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday said it had become the habit of parties to make announcements to woo the electorate ahead of the elections.
“Contesting parties must fulfill their promises after coming to power. It has become the habit to make false assurances ahead of the elections,” he said.
Parkash Singh Badal reiterated his demand to make manifesto a legal document.
Lashing out at the Punjab Government, the SAD stalwart questioned its “unfulfilled” promise of providing employment for the jobless youth in the state.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Shiromani Akali Dal has forged an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party for the Punjab Assembly elections due in 2022. Earlier, the SAD had severed the ties with the BJP after the introduction of three farms laws by the NDA government at the Centre.
Contesting parties must fulfill their promises. It’s become a habit to make announcements to lure people for votes like the @INCPunjab has done & is still doing. There should be a legal binding to fulfill assurances made in manifestos: Ex Pb CM S. Parkash Singh Badal pic.twitter.com/QoroUGYL2C

Even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the government has decided to repeal the farm laws, the SAD president ruled out any possibility of allying with the BJP again for the Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal has been questioning the Punjab Government and raising his voice for the welfare of Punjabis.
