Farmers, who started marching towards the Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh, handed over the memorandum to the Chandigarh DC Mandip Singh Brar.

Upon Mandip Singh Brar’s request, the farmer leaders, including Balbir Singh Rajewal, Harmeet Singh Kadiyan, submitted the memorandum to him and urged the farmers to maintain peace and harmony.

Earlier in the day, the police resorted to water cannon to disperse the protesting farmers who broke barricades at the Chandigarh-Mohali border and started marching towards the Raj Bhawan.

It may be recalled that there have been no talks between the Centre and farmers after Republic Day violence in Delhi.

Farmers have been protesting against the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
